The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association is a trade association located in Alexandria, VA (metropolitan Washington, DC area) that represents the construction aggregates industry.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to the president and CEO. Provides staff support for all committees and programs generated and maintained by the Operations Division; Aggregates Foundation for Technology, Research, and Education (AFTRE); and the Research, Technical, and Product Development (RTPD) Committee of the Marketing Division. Responsible for networking, liaison, and technology transfer with member companies, state associations, federal agencies, and other trade associations whose realm of influence relates to operations, aggregates research, materials science, and product development.
General Position Responsibilities: Direct and coordinate all functions of the association's Operations Division and engineering activities including committee organization, meeting planning, budgeting, and overall program execution. Provide industry oversight, technical guidance, and information dissemination on operations and materials engineering matters important to the aggregates industry nationwide.
Specific Duties:
Provide staff support to Operations Division and Research, Technology and Product Development Committees.
Implements initiatives such as training courses and education seminar plans at AGG-1 of the Operations Division and technology transfer plans of the RTPD Committee.
Serve as main NSSGA staff contact on issues related to materials engineering and operations.
Monitor and manage communication of Operations Division and technical/engineering activities to NSSGA staff, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.
Provide staff support to NSSGA student chapters at various universities.
Represents the industry with specifying agencies: ASTM (6 major committees), AASHTO, ACI, FAA
Represents the industry with research agencies: TRB, NCHRP, AAPT, LTPP, ASCE
Represents the industry with user agencies: FHWA, NAPA, ACPA, USACE-, ARTBA, AI, PCA, ACI
Key industry liaison with BATF
Works with state aggregate associations to encourage use of aggregates research with state DOTs.
Staff support for AFTRE Board, ICAR research applications, or other university activities
Written and oral technical presentations as needed
Other duties as assigned by the president
Background/Education Requirements: Degree in civil engineering with a materials or transportation specialization preferred. Advanced degree in a relevant field and professional engineering registration are desirable.
Experience Requirements: Practical experience in horizontal and vertical construction and understanding of materials science (research, specifications and test methods) are essential. Familiarity with aggregate production (facility operation and design, product distribution and transportation), industry economics, and regulatory compliance are desirable.
